The United Nations and Amnesty International protested against the execution of the Taliban in the field

The Taliban regime gained world fame in 1999 with the execution of Zarmina in the Chaman Hozuri Sports Field. Zermine, a mother of five children, was shot for murdering her husband on a cloudy day. It is said that in this field execution, about 30,000 Kabuli citizens were mostly forcibly dragged to the Chaman Huzori sports field to watch the moment Zarmina, the mother of 5 children, was shot by the Taliban. This execution was quickly reflected in the global news networks and the rule of terror and extremism was transmitted in the real sense in the world.

At that time, the Rawa organization, which was led by women and was related to the revolutionary women of Afghanistan, filmed this tragedy secretly, and their footage was published in many news networks around the world. At that time, the Rava organization believed that Zarmine was dragged to the Chaman Huzori sports field without access to justice, without prior notice, and then a Taliban soldier shot Zarmine in the head by the order of the mayor of Kabul.

Now, about 25 years after the execution of Zarmina, the Taliban once again shot a man in Farah province last year and two men in Ghazni city on the 22nd of Feb 2024. These three men were shot like Zarmine in the football sports field. Human rights activists believe that these three men were brutally shot without access to justice or legal counsel. Although field executions are carried out by the Taliban every day in every corner of Afghanistan, the killing and torture of civilians are reported every day. But such executions destroy most of the psychological security of the people.

Now the United Nations and Amnesty International asked the Taliban to abolish the death penalty and stop all executions. These organizations oppose all forms of execution because it violates the right to life. Amnesty International has called the Taliban's action to execute people in public as a gross insult to human dignity. This human rights organization said that the death penalty is a violation of international laws and standards and cannot be tolerated.

Amnesty International asked the Taliban to cancel the execution and other cruel, inhuman, and degrading punishments. In a statement published by this organization on Friday, it is stated that execution in public adds to the inherent cruelty of the death penalty and can only have an inhumane effect on the victim and a brutal effect on those who witness the execution.

This statement was published a day after the Supreme Court of the Taliban announced on Thursday, 20th of Feb 2024, that with the approval of Hebatullah Akhundzadeh, the leader of this group, two men were accused of murder in a stadium in Ghazni province and execution has done. Eyewitnesses told the media that the Taliban shot the two men at a stadium in central Ghazni. Amnesty International supported the accused's right to a fair trial and said that the violation of the principles of fair trial in Taliban courts is worrisome.

This organization said that the time has come for the international community and the United Nations to put pressure on the Taliban due to the clear violation of human rights and to help Afghanistan comply with international laws.

Earlier, the United Nations also opposed the death penalty and asked the Taliban to cancel the death sentences. Earlier, following the execution of two people in Ghazni Province by the Taliban, UNAMA said in a reaction that the United Nations strongly opposes the death penalty. UNAMA called on the Taliban to immediately abolish the death penalty, as it is against the fundamental right to life.
